Agroecological transitions require more than successful projects and local initiatives. To achieve lasting impact at scale, supportive policy environments are needed to shape incentives, institutions and investments across food systems. There are different ways in which policy can support and enable agroecological transitions.
This second webinar of the A&FS Agroecology Deep Dive Series has been developed in collaboration with the Agroecology Coalition Policy Working Group and Biovision and explores two distinct pathways towards the same objective: enabling agroecological transitions at scale.
These pathways are:
- National Agroecology Strategies (NAS): dedicated national frameworks that define a country's vision, priorities and actions for agroecological transition. This pathway will be explored through the launch of Biovision’s new brief, From Policy Development to Practice for Impact: Reflections for a Successful Implementation of National Agroecology Strategies – Lessons from Frontline Actors in Africa.
- Agroecology mainstreaming: integrating agroecological principles into existing policies, institutions and investment frameworks, illustrated through a presentation of the ASEAN Guidelines on Agroecology Transitions
Drawing on experiences from both pathways, speakers will share key learnings and reflect on the opportunities and challenges of different policy approaches and discuss the conditions needed to translate policy commitments into practice.
