Multilateral organisations

  • CGIAR – Consultative Group for Agricultural Research
    CGIAR is a global partnership that unites international organizations engaged in research about food security. Its aim is to reduce rural poverty, increase food security, improve human health and nutrition, and sustainable management of natural resources.
  • FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization
    The FAO is the leading organization in international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security.
  • GAIN - Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition
    GAIN is a foundation developed by the UN and supported by over 30 donors. Its actions include improving the consumption of nutritious and safe foods for all.
  • IFAD – International Fund for Agricultural Development
    The IFAD is an international financial institution and specialized agency of the UN for addressing poverty and hunger in rural areas.
  • ILC - International Land Coalition
    The ILC is a global alliance of civil society and farmers' organizations, United Nations' agencies, NGOs and research institutes. Its mission is to «promote secure and equitable access to and control over land for poor women and men through advocacy, dialogue, knowledge sharing and capacity building».
  • SUN Movement - Scaling Up Nutrition
    SUN, is a country-led Movement committed to the understanding that good nutrition is the best investment of the future. The political leaders of SUN countries agree to engage all sectors of central and local governments in efforts to improve nutrition.
  • WFF - World Food Forum
    The WFF is an independent, youth-led global network of partners facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
  • WFP – World Food Programme
    The WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization providing food assistance worldwide. It is an international organization within the UN.

Multilateral platforms

  • CFS – Committee on World Food Security
    The CFS is an intergovernmental body that serves as a forum in the United Nations System for review and follow-up of policies concerning world food security including production and physical and economic access to food.
  • GDPRD – Global Donor Platform for Rural Development
    The GDPRD is a network of 40 bilateral and multilateral donors, international financing institutions, intergovernmental organizations, foundations, and development agencies. It brings together donors that believe the best way to tackle global poverty and hunger is to develop agriculture, reshape food systems, and invest in rural communities.

AFS partners

  • BFH-HAFL - School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences
    The HAFL is a department of the Bern University of Applied Sciences. It offers studies in agriculture, forest and food sciences, and it provides applied research, services and continuing education programmes in these areas.
  • Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT
    The Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is a global research-for-development organization that delivers research-based solutions harnessing agricultural biodiversity to sustainably transform food systems and improve people's lives.
  • Helvetas
    Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is an independent Swiss development organization that focuses on capacity-building of disadvantaged people and communities in rural regions. The focus is on basic needs such as drinking water, food security, education and income generation.
  • Swissaid
    Swissaid is a foundation active in the poorest, mostly rural regions of developing countries. It focuses on self-help projects in the areas of food security through agro-ecological farming, the promotion of women, access to water and support for civil society.

Research/Knowledge Centers

  • CABI – Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International
    CABI is a non-profit intergovernmental development and information organization focusing primarily on agricultural and environmental issues in the developing world, and the creation, curation, and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Their work focuses on loss of crops caused by pests and diseases, invasive weeds and pests that damage farm production and biodiversity, and lack of global access to scientific research.
  • FiBL – Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau
    The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture, is an organic farming information and research centres. As an independent and non-profit organization, it promotes research and projects that help farmers improve their productivity with consideration of environmental and health impacts.
  • ICIPE – International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology
    ICIPE is an international scientific research institute, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya that works towards improving lives and livelihoods of people in Africa. The center’s main objective is to research and develop alternative and environmentally friendly pest and vector management strategies that are effective, selective, non-polluting, non-resistance inducing, and which are affordable to resource-limited rural and urban communities.
  • WOCAT - World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies
    WOCAT is a global network on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) that promotes the documentation, sharing and use of knowledge to support adaptation, innovation and decision-making.

Academia

  • Oxford Environmental Change Institute
    The ECI has an internationally-recognised track record in food systems research, with special emphasis on the interactions with environmental change. Key strengths include using a food systems lens for research and training on food security issues, and developing research partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders including business, policy, development agencies, NGOs and academia at large.
  • Wageningen Food Sciences and Technology Cluster
    The Food Sciences and Technology Cluster of the Wageningen University is working on the challenge of converting the world’s harvests into safe, healthy and good food for our changing global population.
